Adopt these tips to develop a healthier digestive tract.

There are 4 different types of food, and each type requires different conditions for total digestion. Sugars, proteins, fruits, and non-starchy vegetables make up the 4 types. Foods that are good source of protein are all meats and fish, dairy products, almost all nuts, and soy foods. Carbohydrates include potatoes and starchy veggies, grains including rice, corn, oats and millet, pasta, honey, sweets, and baked goods like bread, biscuits, cakes, and pastry doughs. Lettuce, celery, and other usual salad ingredients make up the non-starchy vegetable group.

Within the fruit group are four sub categories: acidic, sub-acidic, sweet and melons. Sweet-tasting fruits include: bananas, figs, dates, prunes, and majority preserved fruits. Citrus fruits and pineapples are the main acidic fruits. Fruits like peaches, apples, plums, and berries are called sub-acidic fruits. Of course, it's easy to guess what to include under melons; watermelon, honeydew, muskmelon, and other varieties.

Different chemical conditions are needed by each type of food, to be totally broken down. On the one hand, proteins call for an acidic environment, while on the other, carbs need an alkaline environment. Combining carbs and proteins results in neither an acidic nor a basic condition, which is not pleasant. The resulting incomplete break down of food is asking for trouble. This is the reason a lot of people are afflicted with heartburn, for example, or even irritable bowel syndrome.

If you adhere to these tips, you'll feel much better after each meal. At every meal, resolve whether you will eat protein foods or carbohydrates, but not both. You can take in proteins or carbohydrate rich foods with non-starchy vegetables.

It's best to consume simply fruits alone. You could mix sub-acid fruits with either sweet or sour fruits. Melons must not be eaten up with any other fruit.

Furthermore, the time your body has to digest the various types of food varies. Protein-rich foods are not completely digested until four hours after consuming, while carbs digest totally in only two hours. Thus, wait at least three hours after you've eaten a carb meal to eat protein.
